What Is a Third Shot Drop in Pickleball?

After your opponent returns the serve, they are already at the kitchen line. You are stuck at the baseline. They have the advantage.

You have two options. Drive it hard and hope for the best, or hit a soft shot that drops into the kitchen and takes away their ability to attack. That second option is the third shot drop and it is the most important shot in pickleball.

It does not win you the point. It neutralizes their advantage and gives you time to move forward and join your partner at the net.
