Stop Aiming for "Over the Net." Start Aiming for a Target.
Most players think a good shot just means clearing the net and staying in bounds. That's the bare minimum. The players who actually win points are the ones who can put the ball exactly where they want it, every time.
Why Does Accuracy Matter More Than Power?
- Accuracy wins more points than power
- If you can consistently place the ball where you want it, you force tougher shots
- This makes life much harder for your opponents
Here's a simple drill to build that kind of precision.
How Does the Drill Work?
- Place a bucket anywhere on the court where you want your shot to land
- Feed yourself balls, or have a partner feed them to you
- Aim for the bucket on every shot
- Count how many land in or within your target area
- Challenge yourself to make more shots than you miss

Why Does This Drill Actually Help?
- Every shot in pickleball has a target
- This drill trains you to focus on placement instead of just getting the ball over the net
- As you get more accurate, you'll have better control over your drives, drops, dinks, and serves
- You'll also build the confidence to aim for smaller targets during a match instead of playing it safe
How Do You Keep Progressing?
- Once the bucket starts feeling too easy, move it to a different spot or use a smaller target
- The more precise your practice is, the more precise your game becomes
Aim small. Play bigger.
