Drills to Instantly Add Power to Your Forehand Drive

Power Isn't Just About Swinging Hard. It's About This.

You think power comes from hitting the ball hard? You may be right, but timing, weight transfer, and making solid contact makes your drive more powerful.

Try these three simple drills to build a stronger forehand drive.

1. Drag and Swing

Start with one knee on the ground. Hold the ball out in front, let it drop, then hit it before it bounces.

Why it works: Removing your legs forces you to generate power with your hips, core, and paddle acceleration while improving clean contact.

2. Bounce and Swing

Stay in the same kneeling position, but this time let the ball bounce once before hitting it.

Why it works: Teaches patience, timing, and proper contact point while building a smooth, powerful swing.

3. Swing and Step

Stand in your ready position. Let the ball bounce, drive through it, and allow your momentum to carry you forward into your front foot.

Why it works: This teaches proper weight transfer, helping you generate effortless power instead of relying only on your arm.

Spend just 5 to 10 minutes on these drills before playing. As your timing and weight transfer improve, your forehand drive will become faster, heavier, and more consistent.
